Meet Our Team

Hazel Brown,
Consultant Physiotherapist
Hazel Brown specializes in rehabilitation for brachial plexus injuries. Her hands-on experience and commitment to patient wellbeing ensure effective recovery is known by all who know her. She is studying for a PhD in the UCL Centre for Nerve Engineering. She has led international groups for research and clinical projects and is internally respected and recognised as an expert in the rehabilitation of nerve injury and academic work in this area. Hazel is one of the three lead Consultants in Bristol along with the 2 surgeons.

Meet Our Team

Greg Pickering,
Consultant Surgeon
Mr Pickering graduated from the University of Bristol with degrees in both Pharmacology and Medicine. Having completed his foundation training, he then spent time training in New Zealand, Australia and across the South Pacific. Mr Pickering returned to the UK, completing his higher specialist training in Trauma & Orthopaedics on the Severn (Bristol) Rotation. He was a very active member of the rotation and served as President of the Trainees’ Group during his final year. Mr Pickering completed his training as a National Training Interface Group Fellow in Hand Surgery, having ranked first in his application year, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. During this time Mr Pickering was the British Delegate to the American Society for Surgery of the Hand International Travelling Fellowship (visiting units including the Indiana Hand Centre, Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, The University of Chicago and OrthoCarolina), as well completing the British Diploma in Hand Surgery.

Prof. Grey Giddins,
Consultant Surgeon
Grey Giddins is a consultant Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in elbow, wrist and hand problems and nerve injuries. He has been a consultant in Bath for 18 years. He held a research fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons prior to his appointment in 1995 as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon at the Royal United Hospital and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath. He was awarded an ABC travelling fellowship in the USA in 2000. He treats a full range of problems in the elbow, wrist and hand including carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren's disease, ganglions, arthritis and all aspects of hand care in all age groups. He has particular interests in the management of common hand injuries, the mechanism and outcome of falls on the wrist, and minimal access surgery for many common elective hand conditions such as finger ganglia, corrective osteotomies and closed fusions. He runs a specialist practice in adult and obstetric brachial plexus injuries, wrist and pathology and rheumatoid arthritis. As well as being an extremely experienced doctor, he is also the Editor of the Journal of Hand surgery and a member of the Councils of both the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, the European combined societies for Surgery of the Hand and the British Orthopaedic Association. He runs a busy research programme both at the Royal United hospital in Bath and the University of Bath. Professor Giddins has a particular philosophy of minimising the need for surgery. When surgery is needed he has developed new treatments under local anaesthetic to avoid the problems of general anaesthesia. He has also pioneered a number of keyhole surgery techniques.
